Dr. Abdelhamid Salem and Christos Masouros received Best Paper Award at the 2019 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC) held in Marrakech, Morocco, 15-19 April. 2019. The awarded paper is entitled “Rate Splitting Approach Under PSK signaling Using Constructive Interference Precoding Technique”
IEEE WCNC is the world premier wireless event that brings together industry professionals, academics, and individuals from government agencies and other institutions to exchange information and ideas on the advancement of wireless communications and networking technology. The conference features a comprehensive technical program offering numerous technical sessions with papers showcasing the latest technologies, applications and services. In addition, the conference program includes workshops, tutorials, keynote talks from industrial leaders and renowned academics, panel discussions, a large exhibition, business and industrial forums.
This awarded paper examines the performance of an innovative energy efficient approach that takes advantage of interference as a useful resource for developing green communication systems. It challenges traditional approaches which treat interference as a detrimental phenomenon and a major obstacle for meeting the ever increasing quality of service requirements in modern wireless communication systems. Our approach is based on exploiting constructive interference as a source of useful signal power at the modulation level by use of practical multiuser downlink (from base stations to mobile users) precoding.
